Dumpster Rental Cost in Detroit: What You'll Actually Pay

What goes into a flat-rate price — and how to avoid overage fees. 4 min read.

By Detroit Dumpster Co · Updated

Dumpster pricing in Detroit looks confusing because a lot of companies quote a low number and add fees later. Here's how our flat-rate pricing works, what can change the price, and how to keep it down.

What's included in a flat rate

One price covers delivery, pickup, the rental period and a weight allowance. Sizes and what's included are on the sizes & pricing page; call (313) 397-0178 and we'll give you a free, exact quote for your job. There are no fuel surcharges or “environmental fees” bolted on afterwards.

Short on time? Call (313) 397-0178 and describe the project — we'll size it for you in one call and quote a flat price. No obligation.

What changes the price

  • Size. Bigger containers cost more to haul and dump. Getting the size right is the biggest lever.
  • Weight. Landfills charge by the ton, so every size has a weight allowance. Go over it and you pay a per-ton overage. Heavy material — dirt, concrete, brick, shingles — is where people get caught.
  • Rental length. The standard rental period is included. Need it longer? Extra days are cheap; just tell us before pickup day.
  • Distance. We price the whole Metro Detroit area flat. Far edges of the service area may carry a small delivery add-on — we'll tell you before you book.
  • Prohibited items. Tires, mattresses, appliances with freon and hazardous waste cost extra to dispose of, or can't go in at all. See what can go in a dumpster.

How to keep the cost down

Break down bulky items so you're not paying to haul air. Keep heavy material in a smaller container and load it evenly. Don't fill above the rim — overfilled containers can't be legally transported and you'll pay for a second trip. And call before you book: describing the job takes two minutes and usually saves a size.

Dumpster rental vs. junk removal vs. the dump

A junk removal crew is convenient for a few items, but for a full cleanout or renovation a dumpster is almost always cheaper per load — you do the loading on your own schedule. Hauling it yourself to the Wayne County facility works for one truck load; beyond that, the fuel, time and dump fees add up fast.
